November’s summary of news from Stretton-on-Dunsmore Parish Council. Further details and any related documents are available on the Parish Council Documents & Notices page.
Cllr Rob Stephens R.I.P
The Parish Council would like to pay tribute to Rob, who was well known throughout the village. He was a valued, proactive member of the council, with a practical hands on approach and a great sense of humour. In his short time on the council he was very involved in most aspects of the Parish council work. The Parish Council would like to extend its deepest sympathy to his wife Caroline and his family.
Cllr John Simmonds
Cllr. John Simmonds has tendered his resignation from the Parish Council for health reasons. John has served the village as Chairman and Councillor for many years and his experience, drive, enthusiasm and dedication to the people of the parish will be sorely missed. We wish John a speedy return to fitness and look forward to marking his retirement at an event in the near future.
So far three organisations within the village have applied for and been awarded a grant by the Parish Council. All Saints’ Church, the Village Hall and Stretton Scouts have all benefited from the new grant policy. All applications should be submitted to the Clerk and will be reviewed at the next public Parish Council meeting.
There will be a few improvements being made in Plott Lane Playground over the coming months, and a contractor has been selected to make the repairs to the bus shelter on Brookside. Thanks to all those who reported the broken bollards at Fosse Way Playing Field, those will be repaired shortly. The Parish Council are considering some significant improvements to the pavilion and garage on Fosse Way therefore it is seeking volunteers to join a working party/committee to develop a longer term plan to refurbish or rebuild the pavilion to make it a more functional and aesthetically pleasing building. So if you have some ideas or are interested in being involved in this project please contact Cllr Paul Gordon 02476 542850 email@example.com
There is currently one allotment plot vacant. If you would like further information about this or to rent this plot please contact Cllr Ian Simpson 07760 165198 firstname.lastname@example.org.
As you may be aware Rugby Borough Council have sent their Local Plan to the Secretary of State, with a recommendation to build on two sites in Stretton; Little Orchard (Plott Lane), and the field behind Squires Rd. The Parish Council are keen to hear the views of residents on the current proposals set out by RBC, they can be viewed here:

Community Speed Watch Team
The Speed Watch have been active and effective in Stretton and Princethorpe again. It has now been agreed that Stretton will purchase a speed gun and signage jointly with Princethorpe so the team can organise its own timetable and monitor traffic at peak times. The Police will hopefully be running another Speed Awareness Course in January 2018 to train more volunteers so if are interested in joining the Speed Watch Team please contact Cllr Pam Rose 07790 424122 firstname.lastname@example.org.
In anticipation of Remembrance Sunday the Parish Council have arranged for the cleaning of the War Memorial and requested that Highways England cut the grass and weed the gravel area. Rev Ali will lead a very short service at the monument on the A45 at 12pm on Sunday 12th November, during which Cllr Paul Gordon will lay a wreath on behalf of the people of Stretton. All are welcome at this commemorative event.
